The face-mask seat from South Korea

Ever wondered what to do with all those discarded face masks? Well a furniture student from South Korea, Kim Ha-neul, has figured out an inspiring solution- turn them into stools. The stools are rather nice too, and have been created in a variety of colours from blue, pink, black and white masks. We wish we could get our hands on some but unfortunately they are not for sale here!

It is great to see a furniture design student make use of renewable and recyclable material, and seeking new alternatives to creating furniture in this way.

“Plastic is recyclable, so why don’t we recycle face masks, which are made of plastic?” Kim Ha-neu said.

He has gathered the masks from his local university through setting up mask collection points, and got a big amount of defective ones from a factory (which we can only assume would have been disposed of otherwise).

Not only is he hoping to expand his range to other types of furniture, he is also using the attention to raise awareness and urging governments and companies to set up collection points for face mask recycling. Maybe collection points in London for safe disposal and recycling wouldn't be a bad idea.

Let us know if you have any ideas on how to get hold of these creative stools, or why not give it a try yourself, who knows, you may see them available on Zenkki in the future ;)
